BNB Chain’s Oct. 19 update said the Foundation had completed its 37th quarterly burn.
The post listed 1,646,196.44 BNB burned, an estimated value of about $1.2 billion, and a remaining supply of 131,512,085 BNB.
The latest quarterly burn was larger than the one in July, when 1,615,827.795 BNB was removed, according to BNB Chain’s earlier report. The two figures refer to separate quarterly events.
BNB Chain says its quarterly calculation takes account of BNB’s price and the number of blocks produced on BNB Smart Chain (BSC) during the quarter. The program is designed to bring total supply down to 100 million BNB.
A separate mechanism removes part of the gas fees collected in BSC blocks, BNB Chain said. That fee-related process is distinct from the quarterly calculation.
BNB Chain said this quarter’s burn and future quarterly burns will take place directly on BSC because of BNB Chain Fusion. The post did not give a date for the next quarterly burn.
