Bajaj Electricals will separate board leadership and management in 2027 after Executive Chairman Shekhar Bajaj’s planned exit from the executive role, ending a tenure of more than 40 years leading the company.

The board approved the transition on Oct. 28, 2026. Bajaj is due to step down as executive chairman on Dec. 31, 2026. From Jan. 1, 2027, he is expected to become a non-executive director, subject to shareholder approval. The company said separately that he will hold the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus from that date.

Independent Director Sudarshan Sampathkumar is proposed to become non-executive chairman on Jan. 1, also subject to shareholder approval. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Sachdeva will remain in his roles and continue to run the company.

Bajaj Electricals described the plan as a move toward professional management and stronger collective board involvement. Under the proposed arrangement, Sachdeva will manage the business while the non-executive chairman leads the board. Bajaj said the timing was right to update the company’s governance approach.

The planned transition is set for Jan. 1, 2027, with shareholder approval still required for Bajaj’s move to non-executive director and Sampathkumar’s proposed appointment.
