Base is centering its growth on stablecoin payments, asset trading and credit as creator Jesse Pollock seeks companies to build financial services on the network, arguing these uses move crypto beyond speculation.
Pollock said crypto activity over the past 18 months has expanded beyond Bitcoin (BTC) as a store of value toward financial services. Speaking on The Wolf of All Streets on Sunday, Nov. 1, he argued that broad access to blockchain tools could make financial services easier to build across markets. He said providers might also benefit through stronger margins and better customer offerings.
Pollock grouped Base’s priorities into trading major cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets, stablecoin transfers and credit services. The trading range includes tokenized equities and currencies; he said Base has launched tokenized equities.
To illustrate usage, Pollock said more than $6 billion was locked in Base, a total he placed above Solana’s. His other claims put Base first for blockchain-based USDC transfer volume and second to Ethereum in financing-marketplace size.
Pollock described a possible role for AI agents in household budgets and corporate treasury, including yield decisions and moving company funds. He said Base wants to make its network usable by these agents for transactions and transfers, with financing also part of the intended service set.
He traced Base’s beginnings to Coinbase’s attempt to place its existing business on blockchain infrastructure. Several early trials did not work, he said, so he and a colleague built a chain in a week. Their search was for a system that could give builders speed, lower costs and confidence, he said. Base’s test network launched in February 2023, followed by its main network in August.
Pollock said the current work is to bring more businesses offering financial services onto Base. He also wants to enlarge its economy in response to demand for assets, liquidity and access.
