Thai food producer Betagro has acquired a majority stake in Freshket, giving it an online route to hotel, restaurant and catering buyers and linking the platform to Betagro’s food supply and distribution operations.
The Bangkok Post reported that Betagro made the investment through Betagro Ventures. Freshket serves more than 20,000 food-service operators and offers over 10,000 products, the newspaper said. It reported delivery accuracy above 98.5%.
Founded in 2017, Freshket connects farmers and other producers with food-service businesses. The investment brings Betagro’s production and logistics network together with Freshket’s digital platform. It gives Betagro a direct channel to those customers, while Freshket gains access to Betagro’s supply, delivery capacity and capital.
Chayadhorn Taepaisitphongse, Betagro’s president of animal nutrition and new ventures, said the partnership would help food-service operators obtain a broader selection of ingredients more quickly and at lower cost. The range includes meat, fresh produce, dry goods and frozen products.
Freshket Chief Executive and co-founder Ponglada Paniangwet said Betagro’s logistics network and capital would help Freshket supply ingredients to its customers and support its long-term growth.
Freshket plans to add imported products, including seafood, premium Japanese ingredients, cheese and butter. It is also pursuing cold-chain upgrades and wider service in Greater Bangkok and major regional cities.
