Binance Pay has launched at PayPay-supported merchants across Japan, allowing eligible overseas visitors to spend cryptocurrency while merchants continue receiving payments in Japanese yen.

Starting September 30, 2026, international Binance users can scan PayPay QR codes or present payment codes at participating locations. The integration runs through HIVEX, TBCASoft’s federated payment network, which already links several overseas QR payment services to PayPay’s merchant ecosystem.

Binance Pay is the first crypto payment service to connect with PayPay merchants through HIVEX. Businesses do not need to opt in, and they never receive or hold cryptocurrency because digital assets are converted into yen during checkout. Both consumer-presented and merchant-presented payment modes are supported, with Binance offering zero gas fees.

The service targets Binance Pay’s roughly 48 million users across more than 100 countries as of June 1. Binance Japan customers and Japanese residents are excluded. Eligible overseas users can also receive a limited-time 10% instant discount when paying at PayPay-supported merchants.

PayPay is accepted at millions of locations across Japan, including convenience stores, restaurants, supermarkets and shopping centers. The rollout is aimed primarily at international tourism, after Japan recorded 42.7 million overseas arrivals in 2025 and 3.1 million visitors in August 2026.

The integration also expands Binance’s broader crypto payment and stablecoin strategy. Earlier this month, Binance invested $100 million in Circle shares while strengthening its USDC partnership. PayPay also acquired a 40% stake in Binance Japan in October 2025, deepening ties between the companies.

Japan’s digital payment infrastructure is evolving alongside the rollout. Stablecoin issuer JPYC recently secured $38 million in funding, while regulators have explored changes affecting trust-based stablecoins.

Competition in crypto-to-fiat payments is also intensifying, with companies including SoFi, Mastercard, Ripple and SBI developing stablecoin settlement and cross-border payment systems.

For Binance, the PayPay integration creates a major bridge between global crypto balances and Japan’s established yen payment network, giving overseas users another way to spend digital assets during their visits.
