Whale Alert recorded a Bitcoin (BTC) payment of 499.99 coins on Oct. 20 from an address it said had been inactive for 10.7 years.
Whale Alert’s transaction listing shows the payment going to another address at 10:16 a.m. ET (14:16 UTC). The tracker valued the 500 BTC balance at $41,536,315 when it reported the activity; its estimate for the same amount in 2016 was $194,955. Those estimates work out to about $83,073 per coin at the time of the alert and about $390 in 2016.
The figures describe estimated values at two points in time. They do not show that the holder realized a gain or received cash. The transfer record also does not establish whether a sale took place or identify who controls the sending or receiving address.
The Oct. 20 movement followed a separate 411.45 BTC transfer on Oct. 18 from an address whose principal deposits dated to 2013. EconoTimes previously reported that transfer; the address had no earlier outgoing payment on record.
