BitcoinTreasuries counted 4,202,944 Bitcoin (BTC) across five tracked categories on Oct. 19, a snapshot spanning company and government holdings, funds, exchanges, and decentralized finance rather than one class of owners.

Exchange-traded funds and exchanges formed the largest category, with 1,610,446 BTC. The tracker listed 1,286,722 BTC for public companies and 645,600 BTC in its government category, which includes 46,351 BTC attributed to Ukrainian public officials. Decentralized finance and other holdings totaled 375,520 BTC, while private companies held 284,656 BTC.

The categories describe different ways Bitcoin is held. Company figures reflect corporate holdings; fund and exchange balances include assets held for investors and users. The combined total therefore should not be read as Bitcoin owned by institutions alone.

Among funds, the iShares Bitcoin Trust held 806,037 BTC, the largest balance on the tracker’s list. Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund held 184,058 BTC, followed by Grayscale Bitcoin Trust with 131,528 BTC. The tracker groups fund balances with exchange balances in its category total.

The United States led the government list with 328,372 BTC. China was listed with 190,000 BTC and the United Kingdom with 61,245 BTC. Among private companies, Block.one held 164,000 BTC and Tether Holdings Limited held 100,000 BTC.

Strategy held 848,517 BTC, the largest balance among public companies. Metaplanet Inc. held 44,000 BTC, and Twenty One Capital held 43,514 BTC. Strive’s 36,818 BTC placed it ahead of MARA Holdings, Inc., which held 35,577 BTC.

Strategy said in an Oct. 19 filing that it bought 267 BTC during Oct. 12–18, bringing its holdings to 848,517 BTC as of Oct. 18. That purchase explains the increase from the 848,250 BTC reported in earlier EconoTimes coverage of Strategy’s holdings after a purchase in the week ending Oct. 11.
