A Bitcoin (BTC) price slide coincided with a roughly $1 billion rise in derivatives open-interest value, increasing the exposure represented by active contracts without showing whether traders were positioned for gains or losses.
Bitcoin traded at $75,821 as of 20:02 UTC Friday, down 0.57% over 24 hours, based on CoinGecko and exchange spot data. Funding rates had climbed again after an earlier easing.
Open interest measures the market value of derivatives positions that remain active. Since every contract has both a long and a short side, a higher reading does not reveal which market view traders favored. Nor does it establish that demand for Bitcoin in spot markets increased.
