The live Bitcoin (BTC) inscription tally has crossed 127.7 million, a cumulative count that differs from transaction activity; CoinGecko Research put activity across Ordinals, BRC-20 and Runes at pre-halving levels in August 2025.
Ordiscan’s live explorer lists 127,732,068 inscriptions, 34.1 gigabytes of stored data and about 4,465 BTC in cumulative inscription fees. These live readings describe accumulated records and fees.
An inscription is a content record written into Bitcoin through Taproot script-path spend scripts. Ordinals therefore count content records; the tally does not indicate transaction volume, trading or how many inscriptions have active owners.
The accumulated fee total represents payments for Bitcoin block space over time. It is separate from daily transaction fees and from amounts paid to trade inscriptions. A cumulative figure alone does not show whether fees are accruing at the same rate today.
CoinGecko Research’s 2025 Bitcoin report tracks daily transactions associated with Ordinals, BRC-20 and Runes. It shows this activity had returned to pre-halving levels by August 2025. That transaction series measures activity over a period, while Ordiscan’s inscription total rises as records are created.
CoinGecko Research put Runes’ average share of Bitcoin transactions at 56.6% from April through November 2024. That statistic describes Runes’ portion during those months and is separate from the August 2025 activity comparison.
Inscriptions, cumulative fees and transaction counts measure different things: stored records, historical block-space payments and activity over a set period. A high inscription tally can therefore coexist with fewer transactions.
