In its most recent market analysis, "BTC Tests a Trend Reversal," Binance Research looked at Golden Cross patterns—instances when Bitcoin's 50-day moving average moves above its 200-day moving average—and found that the depth and length of the previous bear market reset is the main factor determining whether a rally is strong and high-potential or weak and shallow. The research sets a 150-day target: golden crosses following a "deep freeze" of at least 150 days below the 200-day average historically resulted in maximum gains of 100% to 600% in the next 12 months, whereas crosses after mild resets gave mixed, short-lived, or failure-prone results.
The existing arrangement corresponds to the positive historical pattern. Bitcoin created a golden cross on September 8, 2026, following 293 days under its 200-day moving average, almost double the 150-day structural threshold. Thus, Binance's approach classifies the current decline as a deep-market reset rather than a small consolidation rebound, therefore putting it in the same category as the historically explosive patterns noted in the study.
Still, the experts advise against over-extrapolation. The 100%–600% numbers reflect peak high-water points within a 12-month window; they are not assured buy-and-hold returns, and historical technical indicators may be moderated by macroeconomic headwinds including changing interest policy, increasing Treasury yields, and derivatives market structures. In essence: the greatest reset in the sample supports outsized upside potential, but macro conditions will determine whether the pattern pans out.
