BlockchainCenter’s Altcoin Season Index measures how broadly a qualifying coin basket outperforms Bitcoin (BTC) over 90 days, with a 75-point reading marking its altcoin-season threshold.

For BlockchainCenter, 75 points means three-quarters or more of its eligible 50-coin basket beat Bitcoin over the 90-day period. The index excludes stablecoins and asset-backed tokens.

The gauge tracks how widely the selected assets outperform Bitcoin; it does not show the size of their gains or losses. A reading below the threshold means the basket does not meet BlockchainCenter’s definition of altcoin season.

CoinMarketCap publishes a separate measure based on eligible assets in its top 100 rankings. It refreshes the index daily and excludes stablecoins, wrapped tokens and asset-backed tokens. CoinMarketCap also defines Bitcoin season as a period when 25% or fewer of the eligible assets outperform Bitcoin.

The two gauges can show different readings because they use different asset baskets and update schedules. Their scores are not directly interchangeable.
