Lionsgate Studios Corp. shares rose Oct. 20 after Bloomberg reported Legendary Entertainment had submitted a takeover offer, renewing a pursuit that the outlet said began in 2025.
People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg the companies had held periodic discussions since 2025. Legendary is backed by Apollo Global Management Inc. and its management, Bloomberg reported. Bloomberg said none of the three companies commented when contacted.
Bloomberg reported that Legendary had weighed a bid in 2025. The reported acquisition targets Lionsgate’s studio business. Lionsgate Studios shares began trading in May 2024, before Lionsgate completed its separation from Starz Entertainment Corp. in May 2025. The separation put the studio and Starz businesses on separate public listings.
Lionsgate says its film and television library contains more than 20,000 titles. Lionsgate said it plans to release fiscal 2027 second-quarter results after market close Nov. 5, followed by an investor call at 5 p.m. ET.
