Four Italian personnel died and 11 others were injured when a military helicopter crashed during training in Bosnia and Herzegovina, prompting condolences from Türkiye and an Italian investigation.

Italy’s Ministry of Defence said 15 people were aboard. The four people who died included two Italian Army members and two members of the Italian Red Cross Voluntary Military Corps (CRI).

All 11 injured people were receiving medical care, and none was in life-threatening condition, the ministry said. It had arranged for an Italian medical team to be deployed and opened an investigation into the cause.

The European Commission said the helicopter crashed Thursday during routine training.

Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry offered condolences Friday in a post on X, expressing sympathy to the families of those killed and to Italy and wishing the injured a quick recovery. The post also noted Türkiye’s contribution to EUFOR Althea, the European Union peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
