British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is seeking advisers on artificial intelligence and economic policy to fill gaps in Downing Street’s policy unit, The Guardian reported.

The Guardian said the role would prepare for AI’s workforce impact amid concerns about lower-level professional-services jobs, particularly for new graduates. The Guardian said the adviser would also counsel Burnham on frontier AI and the technology’s use in public services.

The report described plans for an adviser covering growth and macroeconomic policy, as well as another focused on the cost of living. That second brief would address public control of essentials including transport, energy, housing, water and the environment, the newspaper reported.

The Guardian’s account also identified policy needs involving Scotland, work and welfare, and immigration, security and justice. It said the hiring effort is intended to close gaps in the No. 10 policy unit following Keir Starmer’s departure.
