FIC Global Inc. opened a manufacturing facility in Johor on Oct. 15, adding Southeast Asian production capacity as the Taiwan-listed electronics group builds a cross-border business with Singapore.
Its subsidiary PRO3C (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. operates the site at i-Park @ Senai Airport City. FIC Global said eight SMT lines are running there.
The company said the facility received customer approval in November 2025. Production got underway near year-end, and output reached mass-production stage in the first quarter of 2026. In its Oct. 15 announcement, FIC Global said the plant was starting full-scale operations during the second half of 2026.
The Business Times reported that FIC Global wants 18 lines in Johor next year and expects the operation to bring in US$2 billion in 2027. The paper put the plant's cost at US$50 million and reported 530 employees, about 80% of them in production, with U.S.-listed optical company Coherent as its sole customer. PRO3C President Steven Tan told the newspaper each line has a stated capacity of 120,000 boards per month. The boards feed optical transceiver modules; they are not complete transceivers.
FIC Global's proposed division of work assigns manufacturing, engineering and delivery to Johor. A planned Singapore Innovation and Supply Chain Centre would focus on innovation and procurement, manage supply-chain work and engage customers in international markets, the company said. Singapore's Economic Development Board says the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone agreement aims to improve cross-border goods connections, ease movement of people and strengthen the regional business ecosystem.
FIC Global Chairman Leo Chien told The Business Times that geopolitical pressures had led the group to reserve its Chinese plants for Chinese customers and use Johor to serve other markets. The outlet also reported that Coherent had asked FIC Global to build capacity outside China.
The company said staffing would grow gradually. Over time, its Singapore and Malaysia operations could together support more than 1,000 employees if market demand and operating needs warrant it.
Johor State Executive Councillor Lee Ting Han officiated at the opening, FIC Global said. Lee told The Star, “Our young people should see Johor as a place where they can build a future in advanced technology.” The Business Times reported that Tan planned to quadruple production space in Senai, with details to be announced within two weeks.
