BusinessDay reported Thursday that some pesticides it classifies as highly hazardous are prohibited in parts of Europe and North America amid concerns about cancer, organ damage and endocrine disruption.

Josephine Okojie-Okeiyi wrote the Oct. 22 report as part of BusinessDay’s five-part series on hazardous chemicals and counterfeit products in Nigeria’s food chain. The newspaper published the series’ first installment Oct. 20, focusing on food markets.

The report follows earlier coverage of pesticide residue concerns in Nigerian market beans.
