Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) said October shipments of grain and grain products reached new monthly highs in Canada and the United States, extending the railway’s record run early in the 2026-2027 crop year.
In Canada, the company reported moving 3.26 million metric tonnes in 33,822 carloads. Both figures surpassed the previous October highs, set in 2022. U.S. movements totaled 2.65 million metric tonnes in 27,739 carloads, exceeding the earlier October record from 2024.
CPKC said the two countries’ combined tonnage and carloads also reached all-time single-month records. It did not provide combined totals. The company reported U.S. monthly records in May, June, July, September and October.
The crop year began Aug. 1, 2026. CPKC reported Canadian records of 2.54 million metric tonnes and 26,051 carloads in August, followed by 2.94 million metric tonnes and 30,324 carloads in September. October was the third consecutive monthly record in Canada, the railway said.
By Week 13, CPKC’s Canadian grain shipments exceeded 8.5 million metric tonnes, with 88,064 carloads recorded. The company’s release did not specify the calendar dates covered by Week 13.
John Brooks, CPKC’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said the railway was positioned to “deliver another strong grain season,” citing an above-average North American crop and its network’s reach to global markets.
