CSL has entered into a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate artificial intelligence and cloud computing across its research and clinical development operations, aiming to accelerate drug discovery and streamline key development processes.

The collaboration will give CSL scientists access to AWS cloud and AI technologies to connect, process, and analyze large volumes of scientific data more efficiently. By improving how researchers work with complex datasets, CSL expects to identify potential drug targets earlier and assess external research and development opportunities more quickly.

A major focus of the CSL-AWS partnership will be strengthening the connection between laboratory experiments and computational research. Experimental findings will be incorporated into research models and analytical workflows faster, potentially allowing scientists to make more informed decisions during the early stages of drug development.

The approach could also help CSL reduce delays between generating laboratory results and using those findings to guide subsequent research. Combining cloud infrastructure with artificial intelligence is expected to improve collaboration across research teams while providing scientists with faster access to relevant information.

CSL also plans to deploy AWS technology across its clinical development activities. The company said AI and cloud-based tools could reduce manual workloads associated with writing clinical trial protocols, managing clinical data, and preparing regulatory filings.

Automating parts of these processes could allow research and clinical teams to spend more time on higher-value scientific and strategic work while improving operational efficiency.

CSL emphasized that the increased use of AI will not come at the expense of oversight. The biotechnology company said it intends to maintain appropriate data governance, traceability, and inspection readiness as AWS technologies are introduced into its research and clinical workflows.

The partnership reflects the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry's growing adoption of artificial intelligence and cloud computing to accelerate research, manage complex scientific data, and improve the efficiency of bringing new therapies through clinical development.
