Canada’s 2026 budget pairs affordability measures with projected deficits above C$62 billion in each of two fiscal years; Health Minister Marjorie Michel and Bourassa MP Abdelhaq Sari will appear at a Montréal event Monday focused on the plan.
Health Canada lists Michel and Bourassa MP Abdelhaq Sari as event hosts. The Nov. 9 appearance is scheduled at Marché Al-Hilal, 3680 Fleury Street East in Montréal, for 11 a.m. EST, with time set aside for reporters afterward. The department said it will focus on budget steps intended to lower costs for Canadians and build economic resilience; the advisory does not say which measures the officials will discuss.
Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne tabled Budget 2026 on Nov. 5. The plan includes business incentives and grocery aid, and projects federal deficits above C$62 billion in each of two fiscal years. It outlines about C$22 billion in affordability measures over five years, including a planned one-time payment in early 2027 equal to a 50% increase in the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit for more than 12 million people. Budget 2026 says the supplement would provide C$4.1 billion in additional support.
EconoTimes has reported on the budget’s deficit and grocery measures.
