Former Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative interim leader Karla MacFarlane backed Nova Scotia MLA Becky Druhan’s Liberal leadership bid, The Canadian Press reported Oct. 26, ahead of the party’s November convention.

The CP account described MacFarlane as having a longstanding favorable view of Druhan’s integrity and work ethic. It paraphrased MacFarlane rather than quoting her directly.

MacFarlane and Druhan served in Premier Tim Houston’s cabinet after the Progressive Conservatives formed government in 2021. MacFarlane was minister of Community Services, while Druhan was minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. MacFarlane held the party’s interim leadership from Jan. 23 to Oct. 27, 2018.

Druhan left the Progressive Conservative caucus in October 2025 and sat as an Independent before joining the Liberal caucus in May 2026. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party lists Druhan and leadership candidate Amanda Mombourquette in the race, which the party describes as part of its rebuilding effort.

Delegate registration closes Nov. 2, voting opens Nov. 16, and delegates are scheduled to select the party’s leader at a Nov. 21 convention.
