Thousands of Venezuelan opposition supporters rallied at Central University of Venezuela in Caracas on Thursday, Oct. 22, seeking a 2027 election timetable and Maria Corina Machado’s return, Anadolu Agency reported.

Protesters also called for political prisoners to be freed. Anadolu said Vente Venezuela and allied parties in the Democratic Unitary Platform organized the gathering. Anadolu said the rally marked the third anniversary of the Oct. 22, 2023, opposition primary that chose Machado as the coalition’s standard-bearer.

Opposition organizers moved the rally from Plaza Venezuela to the Tamanaco Gate at Central University of Venezuela after the government and the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela arranged a Pink Month march at the original site, Anadolu reported. The march was intended to honor women and raise awareness of breast cancer, the agency said.

Reuters reported that no date had been set for presidential or legislative voting, while Machado had called for elections by July 2027. The rally followed EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of Venezuela’s election demands.
