Inflation and operational strains frame Celanese's 2027 free cash flow goal of $700 million to $800 million as it pursues productivity gains and cash-management options.
During its Nov. 3 earnings call, Celanese cited possible support from freeing up working capital, reducing restructuring spending and lowering costs and interest expense. The company said it did not need to raise capital spending.
Celanese set its gross productivity objective at $150 million, aimed at blunting inflation's impact. It said it would seek additional gains as inflationary pressure persisted.
Celanese attributed reduced operating rates and margin pressure to an unplanned, prolonged turnaround at one of its key suppliers in China. It also cited raw-material costs, low water on the Rhine, European energy expenses and stronger competition in standard-grade products.
