At an Oct. 21 Beijing forum, China's Digital Yuan Operations and Management Center expanded the digital currency's operating infrastructure with DCEPS, a central bank payment system, and the e-CNY SMART Contract framework.
According to figures reported from the meeting by Xinhua, participating areas had recorded 4.3 billion digital yuan transactions worth about 31 trillion yuan as of the end of September 2026.
Beijing's municipal financial authority identified the new products as DCEPS and e-CNY SMART Contract. Their introduction fulfills a release plan announced before the Financial Street Forum.
An official at the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People's Bank of China (PBOC) described DCEPS as bringing together issuance management, retail and wholesale services, blockchain functions and smart contracts. The system could lower access and liquidity management costs, the official said, according to Xinhua.
The companion framework uses a shared platform and common standards to help financial institutions combine smart contract services for customers, Xinhua reported. The report described smart contracts, which automate the execution of digital agreements, as a way to address high trust costs, poor coordination and difficulties overseeing funds.
