China said its special envoys will soon visit regional countries to promote dialogue and ease tensions.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun outlined the plan on Oct. 27. He expressed concern about hostilities continuing and affecting other areas, and called for talks and a lasting ceasefire.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned of risks to Red Sea shipping during an Oct. 21 meeting in Beijing with Djibouti Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar. Wang's warning covered the Gulf of Aden as well as the Red Sea.

A joint communiqué from that meeting separately warned that Red Sea tensions could affect trade, investment, energy and food security, particularly in Horn of Africa countries.

The ministry did not name the countries the envoys would visit. It gave no departure date beyond saying the envoys would travel soon.
