Circle Match began hourly auctions for eligible Circle Mint customers on Oct. 22, bringing institutional USD Coin (USDC) minting and redemption requests together so bids determine the fee on matched orders.
Mint customers submit a minimum acceptable rebate, while redeemers set the highest fee they will pay, subject to the Express-rate cap. When orders match, the redeemer covers the clearing fee and the minter receives an equal rebate as spendable USDC in a Circle Mint wallet. Offers with more favorable terms rank first; any capacity left at the clearing price is allocated proportionally among orders at that price.
Funding is side-specific: redeemers place USDC in advance, while mint customers wire dollars into a dedicated Match balance. The Match balance converts the dollars into restricted Circle-Match-Only USDC that cannot be withdrawn to external blockchain addresses. Neither a match nor a rebate is guaranteed; auction results turn on the orders submitted for that hour.
Each hour's auction lets institutions submit minting and redemption requests through one process. Without it, those institutions may route the transactions through separate Circle Mint, over-the-counter or exchange channels.
The Express-rate cap alone does not show that Match will be cheaper than Standard redemption because the auction fee can change from one auction to another. Standard redemptions carry no fee and can take as long as two business days before banks settle. Express redemption incurs a 0.05% fee on gross redemptions and is processed near-instantly before settlement. Match redemptions receive Express-level processing, but dollar delivery remains subject to U.S. banking hours.
An updated redemption fee schedule covers transactions from Oct. 19, 2026; existing customers move to it at the start of their next billing period. During the first half of 2026, USDC minting and redemption activity together topped $315 billion, averaging about $1.7 billion a day. Because the figure covers activity before Circle Match launched, it does not show how much volume the auctions will attract.
