Circle Internet Group, Inc. launched its Arc mainnet Sept. 16; Citi digital-assets equity research director Peter Christiansen named the company his top crypto stock pick in an Oct. 19 CoinDesk interview, citing a $243 target.
The interview also covered other crypto-related businesses and investment themes. Christiansen said investors can obtain direct cryptocurrency-price exposure through other instruments, and argued that equity investors may look to firms with operations beyond token-price movements. His examples included Bitcoin (BTC) miners shifting toward hyperscale data centers and high-performance computing, tokenization businesses, and networks that support stablecoin and AI-agent payments. He said tokenization could expand across equities and bonds, while providers' ability to charge for services remains uncertain.
For Circle, Christiansen cited its liquidity, compliant platform, Arc blockchain and technology aimed at AI-agent payments. In discussing Circle, Christiansen pointed to stablecoins as settlement assets for cross-border payments and tokenized assets. He said Citi sees stablecoins potentially becoming a standard way to settle both types of transaction. Christiansen sees Circle retaining a prominent role in payments over time.
At launch, Circle said Arc included integrations for USD Coin (USDC) and Circle Payments Network. Circle issues USDC, a dollar-backed stablecoin. Circle and Proof plan a checkout demonstration using USDC for AI agents that would record signed buyer approval before an agent pays.
Christiansen's broader tokenization discussion included collateral mobility. He said institutional investors often post excess collateral early to avoid operational problems, while tokenization could improve its use and support additional trading. On tokenization firm Securitize, Christiansen praised its technology and market position but said its ability to charge remained uncertain. Citi had downgraded Securitize to neutral, judging the balance between risk and potential return more even, and said it wanted additional operating data and unit economics before considering a better entry point.
Circle plans to report third-quarter results Nov. 4 and hold a webcast at 8 a.m. ET.
