Anthropic has opened Message Threads in public beta, allowing developers to resend less conversation data after a thread starts while Claude continues using the full context.
Anthropic has made the beta available through Claude Platform, where most Claude Code users have it turned on by default.
An application submits the history to create a thread; on follow-up calls, it sends new messages alongside the last response’s identifier. After five minutes without a request, the thread expires, and continuing requires another submission of the conversation history.
Anthropic says thread state remains encrypted during its time in memory and is not written to disk. Although clients transmit less data after setup, Claude still processes the whole conversation at each turn, so token consumption is unchanged. The beta leaves Claude’s token charges and rate limits unchanged.
Cloud users can run it on AWS through Claude Platform, in Microsoft Foundry, or with Claude Models on Google Cloud.
