Cognizant and Google Cloud have created a Gemini-focused unit supported by more than 18,000 Cognizant associates, aiming to help enterprise customers bring AI agents into regular business operations.
The partners announced the Gemini Frontier Capability Group on Oct. 19. Its initial priorities are legacy modernization, developer experience, autonomous agents for business processes and cyber defense. Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S said the initiative will concentrate the company’s engineering expertise on client deployments.
The planned architecture will use the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Google Cloud’s Model Armor. The companies named a Catalog Support Agent for retail, a healthcare agent marketplace and multi-agent Order-to-Cash workflows for manufacturing as expected applications; the announcement did not confirm that these solutions are already available to clients.
Cognizant said more than 55,000 associates completed its Build with Gemini workshop. Separately, the company plans to deploy Gemini to 100,000 associates in 2026 and expand access to 200,000, without giving a date for reaching the larger target.
The new group follows a Gemini Enterprise practice Cognizant established with Google Cloud in April 2026. EconoTimes previously covered the group’s formation.
Cognizant cited work for a retailer it did not identify, saying Gemini use in software development raised developer productivity by 40%, shortened time to market by 30% and lowered costs by 35%. The company did not provide a measurement period, baseline or methodology for those figures.
The partners framed the initiative as a response to demand for AI deployments at scale and described it as a significant joint investment. They disclosed neither the amount nor how costs would be divided. The stated intended benefit is for business clients seeking to put AI agents into use; the announcement did not specify who will bear the costs.
