Bitcoin (BTC) remained cheaper on Coinbase than Binance on Oct. 30 even as Coinbase Prime trading rose the day before, a mismatch that did not confirm stronger U.S. buying.

CryptoQuant data put Prime’s Oct. 29 trading at 9,933.73 BTC, up from 5,150.06 BTC the previous day. Its 24-hour dollar volume was about $368.10 million. The trading total includes activity in both directions, so the BTC figure does not establish whether clients bought or sold more.

CryptoQuant’s Coinbase Premium Index was -0.18% on Oct. 30, compared with -0.27% on Oct. 29. It had registered -0.18% on Oct. 26, -0.14% on Oct. 27 and -0.12% on Oct. 28 before dropping the following day. The latest reading showed a partial recovery, though the index stayed below zero.

The index compares Bitcoin’s price on Coinbase with its price on Binance. Its calculation uses Coinbase BTC/USD and Binance BTC/USDT market prices, respectively. A below-zero reading means BTC is priced lower on Coinbase in that comparison; it describes relative spot pricing, while Prime volume captures trading activity at the institutional venue. The two measures differ, so together they do not establish a change in net institutional demand.

CFTC weekly disclosures put leveraged funds’ CME BTC futures positions on Oct. 20 at 10,408 short contracts and 5,466 long contracts. That snapshot predates the Oct. 30 premium reading and covers futures positioning rather than the spot prices behind the index. It offers limited evidence about current spot demand.

EconoTimes previously covered higher Prime trading alongside a Coinbase discount in its report on Oct. 18 activity, when Prime volume rose and the index later remained negative.

The next indicator is whether the premium continues moving toward zero while Prime trading holds up, a combination that would provide clearer evidence of a demand shift.
