Coinbase has strengthened its partnership with Nasdaq-listed Marqeta to launch stablecoin-backed payment cards for businesses, expanding access to digital asset payments through traditional card networks. The initiative will enable companies to offer cryptocurrency-funded transactions while supporting continuous payment processing and global funding services.
Marqeta announced the expanded agreement on October 16, extending its existing card-issuing relationship with Coinbase. The collaboration will allow enterprise customers to introduce stablecoin payment cards that enable users to spend digital assets at millions of merchants worldwide.
Under the arrangement, Coinbase will custody stablecoins and handle their conversion into fiat currencies during transactions. Marqeta will oversee card issuance, payment processing, banking partnerships, and relationships with established payment networks.
The service targets both cryptocurrency companies and traditional businesses seeking to integrate blockchain payments into their operations.
Marqeta Chief Strategy Officer Anthony Peculic described the partnership as an important development in stablecoin-powered card technology, emphasizing Coinbase's infrastructure capabilities in supporting enterprise payment solutions.
Coinbase will leverage its Base blockchain to facilitate settlement, offering faster on-chain transactions and lower processing costs. The network will help businesses maintain payment operations beyond conventional banking hours, enabling more flexible funding and settlement services.
Coinbase Head of Infrastructure Products Alec Lovett highlighted the companies' combined ability to support real-time payments for businesses and consumers.
The expansion follows Coinbase's recent collaboration with Citi to introduce stablecoin payment services for corporate clients. That initiative aims to connect blockchain-based transactions with established banking infrastructure, simplifying transfers between digital assets and traditional currencies.
Marqeta already operates a substantial global payments business, having processed nearly $400 billion in payment volume across more than 40 countries in 2025.
Meanwhile, Coinbase has continued expanding its stablecoin ecosystem. Its Coinbase-backed OUSD stablecoin became available across Ethereum, Solana, and Base in September, broadening its presence across multiple blockchain networks.
Despite the expanded partnership, Coinbase and Marqeta have not disclosed the agreement's financial terms or confirmed when enterprise customers can begin using the new payment cards. The companies also have not specified which stablecoins the programs will support.
The collaboration reflects growing efforts to integrate stablecoins into mainstream financial services, potentially making cryptocurrency payments more accessible to businesses and consumers worldwide.
