Crédit Mutuel Arkéa said a cyberattack led to fraudulent transfers from one of its accounts, while customer funds were unaffected and some app transactions remained restricted during security checks.

The bank said it notified Banque de France, France’s central bank, after discovering the intrusion. It paused some transactions while staff reviewed systems and added security measures. The pause delayed some transfers, Arkéa said.

EconoTimes reported that almost all of Arkéa’s operations had resumed on Nov. 4, though some in-app transfer functions were still unavailable. Arkéa said it would ease the remaining in-app transfer limits after completing its security review.

Arkéa describes itself as a cooperative group serving more than 5.8 million members and customers, with €211.5 billion in assets. Arkéa has not confirmed the final loss. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT estimated that more than $133 million was stolen; the bank said the value involved was still being assessed and would not threaten its financial strength.
