CNBC host Jim Cramer says a one-day Nasdaq rebound is not enough to establish a durable recovery in AI shares, pointing to earnings, market charts, political pressure and a possible Anthropic IPO. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 26,430.89 on Oct. 19, up 1.1%, the Associated Press reported. The session was covered in EconoTimes’ report on the Nasdaq’s chip-share rebound.
“I think it’s too soon to say the coast is clear,” Cramer said on CNBC’s Mad Money, according to CNBC’s account of the broadcast. For chart evidence, he wants the Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq 100 trading above their 50-day moving averages again. He also described semiconductor and memory fund charts as weak; that is his interpretation of market patterns, not a confirmed signal of what prices will do.
Cramer wants upcoming results to show that major technology companies are maintaining their AI infrastructure budgets and growing their cloud businesses. Meta Platforms projected $130 billion to $145 billion in capital expenditures for 2026, including principal payments on finance leases, in its second-quarter results. Amazon reported that Amazon Web Services sales reached $42.2 billion in the second quarter, up 37% from a year earlier. The figures show the scale of investment and cloud sales, but whether the spending produces lasting returns remains the question Cramer wants earnings to address.
He also expects opposition to data center development may ease after the Nov. 3 U.S. federal election. That is Cramer’s forecast; the Federal Election Commission lists Nov. 3 as the date of the federal general election.
Cramer sees a successful Anthropic IPO as a possible sign of investor demand for a company closer to the end of the AI spending chain. He warned that a large offering could draw capital away from other AI stocks. Anthropic said it confidentially submitted draft IPO paperwork to the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1, but announced no listing date or offer price.
The next scheduled results include SpaceX’s third-quarter release after the U.S. market close Oct. 20, Meta’s report on Oct. 21, Microsoft and Alphabet on Oct. 28, and Amazon’s earnings call at 5 p.m. ET Oct. 29.
