A 24-hour crypto futures tally dated Wednesday, Oct. 21, put liquidations at $244 million, with nearly four-fifths tied to short positions and Bitcoin and Ether comprising more than half.

The snapshot recorded $190 million in short liquidations and $53.94 million in long liquidations, or about 78% and 22% of the total, respectively. The short-side amount was roughly 3.5 times the long-side figure.

Ether (ETH) liquidations reached $48.01 million, while Bitcoin (BTC) closures totaled $78.72 million. Together, they made up $126.73 million, slightly more than half the tally; other crypto assets accounted for the remainder.

The tally's biggest event involved a Binance ETHUSDT contract valued at $8.74 million, around 3.6% of all liquidations. The figures cover one 24-hour period. Short positions are positioned to gain from price declines, while long positions are positioned to gain from price rises.
