Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has announced that Toshi is becoming “Coinbase Wallet.”
Developed by Coinbase team, Toshi featured the world’s first mobile dapp browser at launch, Coinbase said, adding that it became the first wallet to launch crypto collectibles. The firm said the rebranding is “part of a larger effort to invest in products that will define the future of the decentralized web and make that future accessible to anyone.”
“Coinbase Wallet is more than just a tool to access your cryptocurrency — we view it as your home-base for exploring the decentralized web and its possibilities,” it added.
Coinbase Wallet will enable users to manage ETH and all of their ERC-20 tokens; receive airdrop and ICO tokesn; buy and store crypto collectibles; send payments across borders; access leading decentralized exchanges and relayers to buy and sell tokens; and explore third party dapps. The company said that it will soon add support for Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC).
“With Coinbase Wallet, your private keys are secured using your device’s Secure Enclave and biometric authentication technology,” it said.
Coinbase said that Toshi app will automatically upgrade to Coinbase Wallet soon. The announcement follows the acquisition of digital identity startup Distributed Systems by Coinbase. TechCrunch reported that three of members from Distributed Systems – Andrew Gold, Jackson Callaway, and Rohith Varanasi – will work with Toshi decentralized mobile browser team.
