Dalmia Bharat Limited reported a Rs 205 crore consolidated loss for the quarter ended Sept. 30 after exceptional items followed a Rs 46 crore pre-exceptional pretax profit, as EBITDA fell 29%.

The company’s board approved the unaudited Q2 FY27 results on Oct. 26. The group had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 239 crore in the same quarter a year earlier.

Exceptional items totaled Rs 339 crore: a Rs 282 crore impairment and a Rs 57 crore charge for an employee separation scheme covering eligible employees at some units. The impairment included three captive power plants and a discontinued brand. Dalmia Bharat linked the power-plant write-down to a shift in its power mix as lower-cost renewable sources gained share. Renewables accounted for 52% of the group’s power consumption during the quarter, the company said.

Revenue from operations reached Rs 3,563 crore, up 4% from Rs 3,417 crore a year earlier. Sales volume increased 3% to 7.1 million tonnes from 6.9 million tonnes. Despite the higher sales, EBITDA declined to Rs 493 crore from Rs 696 crore, while EBITDA per tonne fell to Rs 698 from Rs 1,013. Pre-exceptional pretax profit came to Rs 46 crore, compared with Rs 318 crore a year earlier.

Power and fuel expenses rose to Rs 874 crore from Rs 717 crore. “Cost headwinds impacted EBITDA for the quarter,” Chief Financial Officer Yatin Malhotra said in the results release. He said the company was counting on firmer cement prices and continued efficiency work to offset some cost pressure.

Trial runs began in October at the company’s Belgaum clinker unit, which has annual capacity of 3.6 million tonnes. A cement mill at the site, with capacity of 3 million tonnes a year, is expected to begin trial runs soon, with no date specified. For the interim dividend of Rs 4 per share, the board designated Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, as the record date.
