Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Friday in a statement on X he ordered a cordon around Hebron and directed forces to prepare a full West Bank closure after a shooting killed two soldiers.
The Israeli military said three other soldiers were lightly wounded and troops killed two suspected Palestinian gunmen from Hebron. The military put the exchange at about 20 minutes, The Associated Press reported.
Israeli military Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said ammunition recovered from the suspects’ vehicle was meant for a larger attack, AP reported.
The Associated Press reported that Israeli motorists could still use major roads, though delays were possible. It said gates and checkpoints closed access from Palestinian villages to those routes. AP counted Friday’s restrictions as the fourth imposition across the territory in the previous month.
Israel’s parliamentary election was scheduled for Oct. 27, four days after the shooting, Reuters reported.
