REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 26, 2017 -- Informatica®, the world’s No. 1 provider of data management solutions and recognized as a big data fabric leader by Forrester, today announced that Dell is the grand prize winner of the Informatica $1 Million Software and Services Big Data Ready Challenge. The contest was designed to help organizations overcome the challenges of taking their big data projects from pilot to production, particularly as they relate to data integration, data quality, data governance, data mastering and data security. Out of numerous submissions, Informatica awarded software and services to help the winning organization deliver clear business value from its big data initiatives, such as advanced analytics from data lakes.
Dell was selected as the grand prize winner because of the company’s vision to deploy big data solutions to improve customer experience and satisfaction using a Hadoop-based data lake. Specifically, with Informatica Big Data and data lake management solutions, Dell aims to reduce the average time it takes to identify and resolve product quality issues, use machine learning to reduce time-consuming manual processes, use natural language processing for customer feedback, and derive data-driven insights about product quality from direct customer feedback. In addition to helping improve the customer experience, Dell believes this project could potentially help the company save millions of dollars. As a winner, Dell will receive Informatica software for free for six months and six weeks of professional services to help with the company’s Big Data Management® proof of concept.
The $1 Million Big Data Ready Challenge was open to companies with initiatives using big data to solve some of the biggest challenges in their industry. The selection of the grand prize winner was based on the following criteria:
- Most compelling and measurable business goal, and most impactful expected ROI.
- Use of a wide variety of data or new types of data, large data volumes, and different latencies.
- Most descriptive use-case and requirements to meet the desired business outcome.
- Most descriptive big data management challenges expressed in the context of the three pillars of big data management: big data integration, big data governance and big data security.
Additionally, leading up to Strata+Hadoop World last month, Informatica introduced Informatica Cloud Data Lake Management, the industry’s first comprehensive solution managing both cloud and on-premise data lakes. Informatica Cloud Data Lake Management is a single solution built on the Informatica Intelligent Data Lake for quickly and easily finding, preparing, mastering, governing and protecting enterprise data in Hadoop-based data lakes to power faster and more trusted data-driven insights.
