Laurie Dundon, a former U.S. diplomat, said Democrats face a question about governing after their midterm breakthrough, while the party’s progressive and centrist wings remain divided, in a France 24 interview published Thursday.

The interview framed the Democrats’ post-election challenge with the question, “Can they deliver?” Dundon, a senior associate fellow at the European Leadership Network, also described continuing ideological differences within the party.

She said Donald Trump’s 2024 MAGA coalition appears to be fracturing and cautioned against writing him off as a lame duck before the 2028 election. “Trump is never going to stop being Trump,” Dundon said.

Dundon said disputes over Congress’ spending authority, presidential vetoes, tariffs and investigations would require delicate political maneuvering. EconoTimes previously covered the candidates’ final scheduled remarks before the midterms.
