Diadem Jewellers starts accepting bitcoin

Diadem Jewellers in Altrincham, launched in December 2014, has recently announced that it is now accepting bitcoin as a payment method. It sells handmade jewellery and is now in the process of launching its website, which will make it the first shop in the Greater Manchester area accepting the digital currency.

Alexander Young, online manager of the store, said that bitcoin is really a future currency and safer than card payments.

"Because BitCoin payments are irreversible, it's more secure and safer. With card payments, a customer might make a payment and it could be done on a dodgy card, where the money hasn't actually been transferred", he added.

He also sees more businesses accepting bitcoin in the future as the financial and economic system experience a revolutionary change.

He said, "I think you have to remember that in today's society you have to adapt or die, and if people want to succeed, it's all about being flexible and open to trying new things."

The decision was also motivated from the relative ease at which businesses could set up the bitcoin payment method, with lots of third parties on-hand to help.

Company owners, Elizabeth Agius and Daniel Monks, are also excited. Noting that the bitcoin industry has been growing very fast and that the number of individuals using the cryptocurrency will only rise in the future, they have big bitcoin plans in mind.
