Disney’s bid for selected Character.AI assets includes offers to at least 60 workers, while the bankruptcy sale will determine whether the chatbot service keeps operating.

The offers carry estimated annual compensation of $60 million, and most recipients have accepted. Disney’s $20 million stalking-horse bid sets the opening benchmark for the sale, but another buyer can bid higher.

The bid covers selected intellectual property and other assets through a permanent, nonexclusive license. It excludes the Character.AI platform itself.

Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 on Oct. 12. Disney has offered no assurance that it will run the chatbot; a buyer’s decision in the sale will determine whether the service continues.

The sale is projected to finish between late November and early December.
