‘Doctor Strange’ gets its new line of Funko’s Pop! Vinyl Figures. It featured main characters Doctor Strange, the Ancient One, Baron Mordo, and Kaecilius. Meanwhile, a new Marvel series introduced fresh new characters into Stephen Strange’s team of allies.
According to Comic Book Movie, toy manufacturer Funko recently unveiled its full product line for the film’s very own Pop! vinyl figures. The line included six Pop! vinyl bobbleheads, Dorbz, as well as other associate products.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange a.k.a. Doctor Strange will receive at least three variants of the Pop! Vinyl figure – one superhero figure for the SDCC, a capeless one for Wal-Mart, and finally an astral projection figure for Target. The Disney Store is also poised to sell a four-pack of the ‘Doctor Strange’ toys.
Other characters with their own vinyl figures include Tilda Swinton's The Ancient One, Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius, and Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Karl Mordo. It is unclear whether Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer or Benedict Wong’s Wong will be part of the toy line-up.
Meanwhile, brand new characters are introduced into the Sorcerer Supreme’s team of allies in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme’ created by writer Robbie Thompson and artist Javier Rodriguez. The second ongoing comic book series is part of Marvel Now’s lineup.
The characters are introduced in artwork exclusively procured by Comicbook.com. The first new character is named the Young Ancient One. Rodriguez explained his creative process saying, "In research, I learned that the Ancient One was a farmer a long, long time ago… So I decided to give him a traditional Tibetan outfit. They wear the sleeve of the jacket like this and I liked that a lot. I kept the colors that are normally associated with the character."
Another unexpected addition is Sir Isaac Newton. Rodriguez said that the character was the exact same one from Jonathan Hickman & Dustin Weaver’s S.H.I.E.L.D. The legendary Merlin has also joined the team.
Two new female characters include the Native American warrior Kushala, who rides a fiery horse, and an explorer named Nina. Kushala, as explained by Rodriguez, is a character of Apache descent and is inspired by the tribes of New Mexico.
Meanwhile, Nina is an homage to heroines of 1940s cinema. Rodriguez said, "She’s an independent action woman with abilities that are magical, physical and psychological at the same time."
‘Doctor Strange’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 4, 2016 in the United States. It is co-written and directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Marvel Studios. It is the fourteenth addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and is the second film in Phase Three right after the Russo Brothers’ ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
