A possible three-day attack on Iran may not alter the conflict’s political course, Federico Donelli told France 24, as elections in the United States and Israel approached.
Donelli, an associate professor of international relations at the University of Trieste in Italy, spoke in an interview France 24 published Thursday, Oct. 22. The segment considered a hypothetical military campaign after eight months of confrontation and the prospect of political change.
Donelli said a campaign’s intended political payoff matters, pointing to Iran’s capabilities and the prospect of negotiations with Tehran as possible objectives. He cautioned that military action might fail to settle the political dispute and could widen the crisis across the region.
“Iran still has leverage over the US,” Donelli said.
France 24 framed the interview ahead of U.S. and Israeli elections. Israel’s Central Elections Committee lists Tuesday, Oct. 27, as the date for the Knesset election. EconoTimes previously covered conflicting accounts of an alleged Israeli plan to strike Iran.
