Frowned upon by many skeptics and haters, dogs, kitty cats and other assorted animals are now welcomed with open arms as animal lovers are getting better and winning the battle from drugs and alcohol. It is common for many facilities to have a house cat or dog as comfort for their clients. Some facilities have an additional outside area that may have other animals such as horses, pigs, goats offering mental health therapy and a means of taking care of something other than being preoccupied with one’s self. The mind of the addict or alcoholic or the patient suffering from mental health issues is consumed with one thing, self-centeredness and selfishness and that is known as the root of the problem fueling the use of drugs or alcohol. Addiction and drug news publications report more and more centers are allowing pets to accompany their owners in treatment.
In many instances the drug of choice is simply a symptom of the main underlying problem. To put in simple terms, the drug or alcohol is not the problem. The main issue is why in the heck does someone put a needle with poison in their arm or neck or why would someone drink in excess causing them to black out while driving and killing someone. The why question gets down and dirty and without addressing the why, the chances of recovery are nil. So, given the chance, given the opportunity, to enter a pet friendly inpatient drug rehab with your loving cat, dog or some other non-judging animal with you to treatment, it is clear that this will help in aiding your recovery. Let’s face it, comfort is good.
As is the case with the majority of addicts or alcoholics, dual diagnosis is prevalent in some form in the treatment program. Today, the treatment industry wants to put the odds in favor of recovery and doing everything in its power to assist the client on their journey to a life free from addiction. Story after story of the man or woman that was abused sexually, or suffered a life changing event or maybe parental abuse, bullying or death of a loved one. Countless situations that may be traumatic or inherited, handed down in the good old family genes, are fuel to the fire and potential downfall of the helpless addict, who is defenseless without treatment. Pet friendly mental health facilities allow these individuals with another option for recovery.
