The Drone Racing League (DRL) is launching a play-to-earn (P2E) Algorand blockchain-based crypto sports game as it looks to expand into the metaverse.
The game, to be developed by Playground Labs, lets players race virtual DRL drones to earn cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as rewards.
The DRL targets to be at the forefront of the global gaming, cryptocurrency, and drone markets, which are collectively worth over US$2 trillion.
The league aims to create novel ways of engaging fans and commercial partners by blending physical and digital experiences that attract youthful audiences and early adopters interested in global gaming, cryptocurrency, and drone markets.
The partnership, which gives Algorand the title rights to the DRL’s World Championship circuit, covers blockchain-enabled ticketing services, fan transactions and NFTs, and community events such as hackathons.
The game is Playground Labs’ inaugural product and it hopes to encourage other sports organizations to get involved with blockchain gaming and P2E.
