The Council of the EU said 19 ambassadors presented credentials to European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Oct. 22, beginning their formal relations with EU institutions.

The envoys represented Niger, India, Korea, Guinea, Canada, Mauritius, Albania, Mexico, South Africa, Honduras, Suriname, Ecuador, Chile, Viet Nam, the United Kingdom, Kenya, Chad, Ukraine and New Zealand.

The Council presents the exchange as the formal opening of each envoy’s ties with EU institutions. Each ambassador also submits a recall letter for the predecessor. The sending country’s head of state signs the credentials, which are prepared as matching originals for Costa and von der Leyen.
