Ecopetrol’s board named José Eduardo Barreneche Ávila as Corporate Compliance Officer, setting a leadership transition by Oct. 20 as an alternate continues to cover the position in the interim.
Ecopetrol disclosed the board decision Oct. 15 in a Form 6-K filing. The company said Julio Ricardo Corredor Calderón, its Alternate Compliance Officer, has carried out the officer’s duties since Oct. 14 and will continue in that acting role until Barreneche formally assumes the position.
Rodolfo Mario García, the former officer, remained an Ecopetrol employee through Oct. 13. The filing says García and the company mutually agreed to end the employment relationship but gives no reason for the departure.
Ecopetrol said Barreneche has more than 20 years of experience in law and regulatory compliance, including work involving corporate, commercial, labor and business law. Before the appointment, he held the Legal Representative and General Counsel roles at Daabon Group and served on the boards of more than 30 companies, both national and international, the company said. Ecopetrol also cited his work on corporate transparency and integrity programs.
Barreneche graduated from Universidad Sergio Arboleda. Ecopetrol said his qualifications include a master’s degree in Education and an LL.M. in Banking and Finance Law, earned at Queen Mary University of London.
The company described the appointment as part of its effort to strengthen senior management. Barreneche is due to take up the position no later than Oct. 20, 2026.
