Egypt is seeking the return of a fishing boat and nine Egyptian sailors detained near Tabuk after an accidental entry into Saudi waters, Gulf News reported, citing Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said the incident occurred Oct. 16 and described the entry into Saudi waters as accidental. It identified the vessel as Mohamed Abu Al Azaim and located it near Tabuk, on the Red Sea. The ministry said it was monitoring developments.

Egypt’s Consulate General in Jeddah has discussed the case with Saudi Coast Guard and port officials as it works through arrangements for the boat and crew to travel back to Egypt. A consular representative met the sailors aboard and checked their welfare and access to assistance, the ministry said.

Egypt says it will continue coordinating with Saudi authorities. The ministry urged Egyptian fishing operators to secure permits before entering another country’s territorial waters, warning that violations could bring legal action and endanger crews.
