Einride AB plans to evaluate NVIDIA’s Alpamayo model in its autonomous truck system, testing software it hopes to adapt for more routes and trucks while existing controls retain authority.
In the first phase, Alpamayo will observe live driving situations in “shadow mode” without directing a vehicle. Einride says it plans to review the model’s recommendations alongside decisions from its driving planner and human drivers as its safety systems continue to operate the truck.
Alpamayo is a vision-language-action model that reads the scene around a vehicle, suggests a possible maneuver and explains why it proposes it. Einride plans to tailor the model with data from its vehicles, routes and freight operations.
The company says the work is intended to speed up development and lower the cost of extending its driving system to more truck types and routes. Chief Technology Officer Henrik Green said it could help Einride “shape the model for freight.” Einride says it aims to become the first trucking company to use Alpamayo with NVIDIA Hyperion; the current work is an evaluation.
The evaluation follows a Sept. 21 agreement to develop a future version of Einride Driver using NVIDIA Hyperion. That effort also includes the NVIDIA Halos safety system and NVIDIA Cosmos and Blackwell infrastructure for model development.
In separate announcements, Einride and Lidl said a cabless truck carries goods on public roads in Germany between a Lidl warehouse and distribution center, on one end, and a Lidl store, on the other. Einride and EASE Logistics said two driverless electric trucks run scheduled trips between EASE facilities in Marysville, Ohio, using company property and local public roads, with remote oversight. Those announcements do not say Alpamayo controls either operation.
NVIDIA also named Einride among companies building autonomous freight systems on Hyperion as part of its European mobility push. Bolt’s plan to collect driving data in Madrid in 2027, subject to regulatory approval, is covered in EconoTimes’ earlier report on the Madrid project. Einride’s next announced milestone is a live road evaluation in the second half of 2027.
