A line from Michigan senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed’s victory speech is now an online catchphrase and the name behind a political fundraising committee, Al Jazeera reported Nov. 8.

El-Sayed directed “JD, habibi” at JD Vance during the speech. “Habibi” is an Arabic term of endearment. Al Jazeera said the remark has traveled online as short clips, image jokes and songs.

The committee is known as Habibi PAC. In an earlier account of the PAC’s launch, EconoTimes reported it followed El-Sayed’s Michigan Senate victory.

The fundraising connection sits alongside a campaign pledge: EconoTimes previously reported that Al Jazeera described curbing money’s influence in politics as central to El-Sayed’s campaign.
