Coinglass put outstanding Ether (ETH) options at $6 billion on Oct. 16, up 3.2% from the previous day, with calls accounting for most open positions and a slight majority of trading.
Open interest stood at $5.81 billion in the Oct. 15 snapshot. EconoTimes’ previous report on Ether options trading also put that day’s trading volume at about $1.67 billion. The Oct. 16 volume was $1.53 billion, pairing a rise in outstanding positions with lower trading value than the prior session.
Calls represented 62.08% of the latest open interest, while puts made up 37.92%. Among the $1.53 billion in trades, calls accounted for 51.49% and puts for 48.51%. The call-put gap was 24.16 percentage points in open interest and 2.98 points in daily volume, showing a wider difference in outstanding positions than in that day’s trading.
Open interest counts contracts that remain outstanding; the reported dollar figure reflects their value. Trading volume measures options traded during a period. A call gives its holder the right to buy the underlying asset at a set price, while a put gives the right to sell it. Options may be used to hedge exposure or take leveraged positions.
Deribit’s Dec. 25 $3,200 call led open interest. Its $2,200 and $2,300 calls with the same expiry followed. Deribit’s Oct. 30 $2,600 call led trading volume, followed by Bybit puts expiring Oct. 18 at $2,100 and Oct. 17 at $2,200.
